House Tour: Apartment Therapy-Style

A few months ago now, I posted a teaser pic of an apartment in Edgewater. I couldn’t explain any more than that at the time because… I was trying out to be a House Tour Contributor for Apartment Therapy! Well, sadly that didn’t pan out—I never actually heard anything back!—but why let the pictures (interiors photography is much harder than you’d think, especially on a cloudy day!), words and inspiration go to waste? Enjoy—and click through to the jump for more pics and a resource list!

Name: Tom Matthews, a children’s respiratory therapist, his boyfriend Chris Lalamay, a printmaker-turned-marketing exec, and their dog Kota
Location: Edgewater, Chicago
Size: 1,265 square feet
Years lived in: 14 months; owned

Green. Sure, it’s a great color—the Color of the Year even—but for every single wall in an apartment? That’s another story. Room by room, they’re repainting, repurposing and finding the perfect pieces to fit their new home.

Design Inspiration: UO at Home

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day! Mine was very productive indeed. On Thursday, I talked about how I had to clean out (most of) what’s left at my parents’ house. I feel like I did a pretty darn good job, though I was sad to see my 2001-2004 Vogue collection in the recycling bin.

It was time.

That said, I still kept probably two dozen magazines and another two dozen books that I’ve collected over the years (give me some credit, that’s pretty good considering the numbers I started with). Add that to what I already have in my apartment… I’m starting to have a real storage issue.

Lo and behold, I run across a tour of an Urban Outfitters director’s home. I honestly really dislike the rest of the house (you can check it out here and let me know if you agree/disagree—way too much everything), but I am VERY jealous of her teak bookshelves. Look at all that great storage space! I need to get me some of that…

Overall
I’ve decided to stop pouting about the shitty weather and celebrate spring. Navy, hot pink, boyfriend jeans (that I never though I’d be able to pull off)… This outfit is completely Connecticut Casual, and I LOVE it.
