I’m pretty new to the whole “making a house a home” scenario, so I decided to start a blog about it. In college, I lived in pretty typical run-down dorm rooms and houses – even a frat house (yes, I meant frat and not sorority – TAU!). And then college ended, and nothing much changed. I jumped around Chicago, filling Craigslist sublets with rando roommates, and finally landed in Andersonville with two of my besties. That said, I didn’t decorate or cook or really be domestic in any way. I always blamed it on my low-paying, high time-consuming internships.
Now I have a low-paying, high time-consuming J.O.B. And while this means I can’t afford a sweet condo in Old Town, I can (well, I hope) afford a small one bedroom and perhaps even something to eat besides Kraft macaroni and cheese. Not that I don’t love the Blue Box; I just worry about my cholesterol.
So follow along as I look for an apartment, attempt to decorate it on the cheap, learn to stand the heat in the kitchen and just live life to its fullest (on a budget) in the Windy City. I hope you find my trials and tribulations entertaining – and maybe you can even help me out! If you’d like to contact me directly, my email address is firstname.lastname@example.org.
Your domestic disaster,
