There are no words to describe how much I love M. Henry. A picture is worth a thousand of ’em, right? So let me just show you how ah-mazing it is…
If you haven’t been here, go. 5707 N. Clark St., Chicago. There’s always a wait, but IT’S MORE THAN WORTH IT.
Especially when they’re free. Well free to use anyway.
Yay for work finally ordering me a camera! ONLY TOOK A YEAR…
“I want that Wednesdays” are a series of posts that, well frankly, are just of things (real estate, decor, food, etc.) I like. Egotistical, right? I’m hoping in time it’ll help me define my personal tastes. Let me know if you love it/hate it/can’t get enough of it.
It’s really truly fall now, isn’t it? I feel like summer just kind of passed me by this year (I’ll blame that on a mix of rain, work and laziness), but I think I’m ok with it. I’m ready to embrace fall. And what better way to do that than with a new pair of boots?
Now since I’ve joined the working world I’ve pretty much eliminated brown from my wardrobe, but the great thing about the caramel/camel color (as opposed to a chocolate) is that I can still wear it with black! That color combo is actually quite in style this season, and it goes nice with my current crush on gold. But finding the perfect pair has proved to be QUITE CHALLENGING.
I swear everyone and their cross-dressing brother has these, so definitely a no…
These are in the lead right now. They’re a little plain, but I kind of like the fact that there’s no hardware to have to match with…
These are the in-my-dreams pair. They’re so beautiful, but also $500…
Ah, new bedding just in time for fall. I couldn’t wait to hear if I’d won the West Elm contest, so I splurged on the quilt and matching shams. While I’m totally loving it, this is only the first step into the bedroom makeover, which makes me nervous. But it’s the next focus since the living room is, for the most part, done now.
The bedroom wish list is huge: bedskirt, curtains, some kind of nightstand (if you notice, there’s not room for a traditional one, so it’ll have to be a headboard/ nightstand shelf thing I think), lighting, something to replace/cover up the hideous closet door… on and on.
But one decision needs to be made: What should my accent color be? Come winter, I’ll need a duvet cover for my down comforter, but I can’t decide what color to even start looking for. It can be textured, but I don’t want to add another pattern to the small room. My dressers are silver and kind of retro looking, so I have a modern Moroccan thing going on.
I need your help. WHAT SHOULD MY COLORS BE? I just want it to be really soothing, a good getaway from my hectic work life. White, navy, silver… Baby blue? Yellow? Turquoise? Hot pink?
Have I ever talked about my love/hate relationship with grocery stores on here? I can’t remember. Well anyway, listen to me rant once more if you would. For the most part, I really dislike grocery stores in the city. They’re always crowded, there’s never enough cashiers, it always takes me two trips up and down the store to find everything I need, the size is overwhelming… is that enough reasons? So to show my disgust, I generally just don’t buy grocery. I’m showing them! Right…?
Of course the answer is no. I end up eating frozen pizza and Wheat Thins and whatever else I can round up just so I don’t have to visit a Jewel or Dominick’s any more than I need to. Sure, Whole Foods is ok but way too expensive, and I don’t mind Trader Joe’s except they get crowded, too, and the cashiers are way to chatty.
But, low and behold, a new grocery story recently opened in my ‘hood – Mariano’s! Apparently it’s a chain, but I’d never heard of it before. Not sure if it’s just because it’s new, but I seem to be in like with it – and that’s saying a lot coming from me. They have free samples everywhere, the produce actually looks fresh and the prices aren’t bad for the city. They have four different brands of baguette – in one store! Heavenly. They even have a gelato stand. Check it out:
PERHAPS I’LL START WORKING TOWARD GOAL NO. 1 AFTER ALL…
LET THERE BE LIGHT! My lamps finally came in, and it’s glorious having something besides harsh overhead lighting again. At first I wasn’t sure I actually liked the pair (maybe because a certain someone said they look like fancy bongs…) , but they’ve grown on me, and I really like the white bases next to the dark gray couch. I didn’t want anything metal or glass because I thought it’d be too matchy-matchy with my end tables, but I love the vintage appeal of these.
I don’t know about you guys, but I love me some HGTV. That said, I was out of the loop (my cable was out for a good month and half after I moved in…long, annoying story) on the latest Urban Oasis home giveaway, but it’s in Chicago this year! I’m sure the chances of winning of tiny, but I’ve still been entering twice a day lately because it’d be pretty sweet to live in Trump Tower. Though I would like to know what the taxes would be on this puppy…
To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of the kitchen or the master bath, but hey, free is free, right? What is pretty cool is that they used my same end tables from CB2!
My favorite thing in the entire apartment? The bar. I WANT.
I’m a horrible blogger. I’ve been MIA for 15 days. 15! Well some of the time it wasn’t my fault – it’s awfully hard to update when you don’t have internet access (I went to Houston for a week – tales and pictures from that to come). I’ve been completely bombarded with work since, but I honestly plan to pull myself together come Monday and start fresh. I hope you’ll forgive me… PLEASE KEEP CHECKING BACK! xoxo
The living room tables have finally come together! So this is what happened: You know I got the CB2 end tables as a birthday present a few weeks ago, but I still needed some kind of coffee table. Now I haven’t been removed from college so long that I don’t like to eat in front of the TV … but the matching coffee table was only 12 inches off the ground – cool, but way too short to conveniently eat off of. Crate & Barrel has a similar set, and the coffee table is over five inches taller than the CB2 one. Only problem? It’s $500…
But Craigslist comes to the rescue! I found a guy selling the exact table, and I even got him to bump down his asking price $100. SCORE!
