In Memoriam: Don Peters

It was almost exactly three years ago when I decided to strike out on my own in Chicago, and I created this blog so my family could keep up with my apartment hunt and, subsequently, my decorating efforts, DIY projects and cooking attempts.

Nobody was more encouraging than my Grandpop. He always wanted to discuss my latest plans, and he especially enjoyed pictures of my current apartment since he was never able to see it in person due to the stairs.

He passed away last week, and while he had 89 great years, no amount of time is ever enough with someone you care about. It sounds cheesy, but spend time with those you love while you can. I’m so happy he moved to Illinois a few years ago because I was able to spend many more weekends with him than I would have if he’d stayed in southern Indiana.

I owe so much to Pop, and I keep reminding myself of all the fun times we had together, from hunting fossils at the Falls of the Ohio to getting lost in the Christmas store in Rottenberg, Germany. I hope I made him proud and somehow he can keep checking in on my progress.
