Caipirinhas are a Brazilian drink that I was introduced to when I visited Buenos Aires. It’s simple ingredients: limes, sugar, cachaça and ice. That’s it. And cachaça is actually fermented sugar cane. So yeah, probably not the healthiest drink. But I think it’s going to become a new favorite for summer because it’s really lime-y and refreshing.
I would offer a recipe, but honestly I just kind of wing it. First, muddle lime slices and about two teaspoons of raw sugar in a glass. Pour that in a shaker, add one and half shots of cachaça, a half teaspoon of simple syrup and ice. Shake it up (I sneak a sip of it at this point to see if it needs more lime or sugar), and while you’re at it, rim your tumbler with sugar. Pour the drink back in the glass, and voila!
